Sussex Strings
Sussex Strings was formed in 2012 following the request of local musicians who wanted to get together to play some of the vast repertoire of string music. Our musical director is local string teacher Simon Smith who leads and directs from the violin.
We perform two concerts a year, always for a local charity. So far we have raised over £6,000. Rehearsals usually start about a month before. We have so far performed works by Rutter, Britten, Mendelssohn and Parry. We also like to give local musicians the opportunity to perform a concerto and have already featured music for solo violin, viola and flute. Two of our concerts have also featured premier performances of works by local composers.
We are always eager to hear from local string players who are comfortable playing Grade 7 standard repertoire.
